Benj. E. Sherman & Sons (BES)
is a family owned Chicago-based real estate firm that focuses on apartment ownership and management around the country. BES is known for its outstanding investment returns as it has generated annual investor returns of approximately 26% since 1990.

Benjamin E. Sherman, the firm's founder, opened the first office space on the West Side of Chicago in 1922. Benjamin initially focused the company on small commercial real estate transactions.

In 1948, Benjamin’s son Leonard H. Sherman joined the family business and expanded the focus on commercial real estate to encompass larger commercial office buildings in the downtown Chicago area. During that time Leonard also began working with condominium developers and at one time, was one of the city's leading condominium converters.

Leonard’s son, David A. Sherman, joined BES in 1986 after receiving his MBA from Harvard Business School. David changed the focus of BES from commercial office buildings to multifamily apartment housing. Over the last 20 years, David has led BES in the acquisition of over 14,000 apartment units in 45 communities nationwide. Under his direction the company continues to thrive and expand its multifamily investment portfolio.

Benj. E. Sherman & Sons was rebranded as Sherman Residential in 2002 to reflect the new focus and direction of our national multifamily housing business. As a third generation family owned company, our family roots still remain. We continue to pursue our goal of being the best owner and operator of multifamily properties in the United States. Every day we strive to provide outstanding service to our residents, challenging and rewarding opportunities for our associates and a place for our investors to achieve stable returns while minimizing investment risks.
